Live Virtual School Age Program Topics
Children discover the wonders of chemical science. They learn the difference between physical and chemical changes. They watch crystals form in water glass and see acetone reduce foam to a puddle of goo. The class will get their hands dirty with a non-Newtonian fluid and use hydrophobic compounds to keep things dry even when submerged in water!
Science of Toys
In this energizing workshop students will learn all about the toy! Students will test, play and ponder the inner workings of your favourite toys while discovering the science behind each of them. An investigation into potential and kinetic energy will allow students to understand how toys move.
Fantastic Fliers takes children through flight and aerodynamics basics. Children discover the four forces that affect flight: lift, thrust, gravity, and drag. They make and test various plane designs to see these forces in action. Children fold and fly the Delta Dart plane, then add elevators and a rudder to make it turn, spin and loop.
Children develop a taste for science! Children get hands-on with magnifiers, model tongues, and mirrors to see what their own tongues look like. A quick-tasting test sorts out which class members are supertasters. The instructor uses spoonfuls of sugar to show sugar content in popular children’s drinks.

Students will be introduced to the science of chemistry. They will learn about chemical safety and common hazard signs and play a game to identify common laboratory equipment. The concept of chemistry as ‘mixing things together’ will be explored when children pour, stir and mix their way to volcanic explosions.
Children will discover why we have different seasons & the role that weather plays in our lives. Models will demonstrate how the movement of the Sun and Earth gives rise to days and years. They will learn how humans, plants and people prepare for seasonal changes in very different ways and sing a specially-written Four Seasons song.
