FAQ
How long are your programs (weeks and hours)?
Our standard program can be held during the lunch hour or immediately after school for 1 hour and typically lasts for 8 weeks. However, Mad Science can sometimes accommodate program requests of 4 to 12 weeks. We will be happy to discuss any atypical scheduling needs.
+Who pays for an after-school program?
Typically, after-school programs are paid for by parents. In some cases, a PTO or other organization may opt to pay part or all of the students' enrollment.
+What are your suggested program start dates?
Classes are scheduled over three semesters. With the ease of implementation, the popularity and variety of our instruction, and the no obligation nature of our programs, most schools elect to offer Mad Science multiple times throughout the school year. Start dates for each semester are the middle of October, January and April.
+Do you have a minimum class size? A maximum class size?
Our classes require a minimum enrollment of 12 paid students. To ensure the hands-on, interactive nature of our instruction, class size will be capped at 20 .
+What does Mad Science need from your organization?
We require a room large enough for the students to sit comfortably on the floor in a semi-circle, and for the instructor to move freely around them. The instructor will also need a small table for the equipment, access to electricity, nearby water and ideally the ability to darken the room. Room volunteers are not necessary with our programs.
+How is registration handled?
There are two ways to handle registration: 1.) Online Registration - This allows for the schools to have limited involvement in the registration process. Mad Science will take on all responsibility. 2.) School Registration - The responsibility of registration is taken on by the school. An invoice will be sent to the school for payment.
+Who are your instructors?
Mad Science instructors tend to be college/university students pursuing an education or science degree, former/retired teachers, or parents. All of our instructors have experience working with large groups of elementary-aged children. Every Mad Science instructor must pass a criminal background check and be certified through our training process.
+What is your inclement weather/class cancellation policy?
We follow the inclement weather and school closure policy of the school boards in which we are instructing. A make-up class will be provided if a class is cancelled.
